Apoxyomenos (Scraper)
Lysippos, court sculptor to Alexander, redefined the athletic body: leaner, more mobile, meant to be seen in the round. In this Roman marble copy, the Apoxyomenos raises one arm to scrape oil and dust from his skin; the other arm once extended forward, breaking the statue's cube and pulling viewers into orbit. The head is small, the torso taut, the weight shift subtle—classical ideals updated for motion and encounter. The result is less a pose than a pause between actions.
