Wenzel Peter
Wenzel Peter was a Bohemian-born animal painter active in Rome, famed for encyclopedic scenes of flora and fauna rendered with polished, naturalistic detail. Working for papal patrons in the early 19th century, he created vast canvases teeming with species and Edenic calm. In the Vatican Museums his “Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden” crowns a celebrated cycle of zoological paintings.
